RICHARD SALTER

METAL FABRICATION

Richard Salter Metal Fabrication creates custom designed metal fabrication solutions for architects, builders, developers, and owners of residential or commercial property.

More than just a metalwork expert, Richard Salter is an artisan and craftsman who collaborates with each client throughout a project to ensure the best creative vision is realised.

Large or small pieces, outdoors or indoors – whatever you’ve got in mind can be hand-crafted uniquely for you.

  • I DRAW INSPIRATION FROM the actual project site,
focusING on the environment and features.
I sketch out ideas that are a direct response
to what I see, crafting a design that reflects the site
and is in harmony with it.

COMMISSIONS

UNIQUE

PIECES

Richard works on commission, creating one-off custom designs for each client.

Drawing on a wide array of materials, tools, experience, and expertise, he will create something beautiful and uniquely meaningful for you and your property.

  • Fences
  • Gates
  • Balustrades and railings
  • Banisters and handrails
  • Sculptures (outdoor and indoor)
  • Furniture (outdoor and indoor)
  • Letterboxes
  • Fire pits
  • Smaller embellishments like door knockers, door hinges and doorknobs

MATERIALS

Richard works with a variety of metals including aluminium, stainless steel, mild steel (“wrought iron”), copper and more. He can advise on the characteristics of each metal, and which will be best suited to your project.

Projects can be created using a single metal, or a mix of materials for creative effect. Wood, stone and other elements can also be included .

FINISHES

The final coating is chosen to complement the design and be in harmony with the site where the work will be installed. The client may prefer a polished effect or a more natural, uncoated finish. Richard can advise on the benefits and artistic advantages of each finish.

Options include clear epoxy enamel, custom paint colours (colour-matching available), or, depending on the materials, the piece may simply be left to weather naturally in response to the environment.

Built to last

Richard’s metalwork is built to endure the harsh Australian climate and uses materials that can last for a millennia in an outdoor environment.

“I like knowing that these pieces will outlive me.”

THE

DESIGN

PROCESS

When you commission Richard, you embark on a design journey together.

Experience the artistic vision of collaborating with an artisan and craftsman throughout the design, build and final installation of your project.

HOW IT WORKS

  1. Richard visits the site (if it’s remote he can work from photos) to study its unique aspects and setting. He’ll also chat with the client to get to know them. This lays the foundation for creating a custom design to suit both the site and the client’s tastes.
  2. Richard then sketches and works up the idea into a functional design concept. A final Design Sketch is presented for approval – nothing goes ahead until the client is 100% happy.
  3. Once approved, the final design is hand-built and installed by Richard.

When a client already has their own design idea, Richard can collaborate and hone it for them. If a client has a specific photo or drawing of what they want, it can be recreated to suit – scaling the size larger or smaller
or adding custom tweaks or embellishments if desired.
